Are You Ready For The Digital TV Switchover?
The switch of the UK´s TV broadcast system from analogue TV to Digital TV is planned for between 2008 and 2012. The Digital Switchover will be done by region and you will need to have some sort of digital decoder to watch any TV in the UK. Each region will be given a minimum of two years notice as to when their signal is due to be switched over. For more information on the switchover, see our digital Switchover guide.
In the UK, the analogue TV signal has been up and running side by side with the digital signal since the 1930s. The digital Switchover will involve switching off the analogue signal, this allowing the digital service to be broadcast at full power giving a noticable improvement to all digital TV services. It will be carried out region by region, starting in 2008. Households in each region will receive two years' notice before it takes place. It is planned that every household in the UK will be receiving digital TV by 2012. For more information please visit our digital Switchover guide.
